All of these help to cleanse and purify the air in your home, contributing to better health. They also serve to boost your immune system. On top of all that, aromatic blends help create a home environment that’s peaceful and helps to calm and de-stress. Win-Win-Win!

I love playing around with essential oil blends for scenting my home all year round. Especially in the fall and winter, when a cozy home is a wonderful thing, essential oils are a must! Scent is undeniably one of the most important aspects of your environment. Here are some beautiful essential oils blends for your Fall home!

There are many ways to create a beautiful, comforting home atmosphere, and natural, non-toxic fragrance is one of them.

I prefer essential oils over candles because they last a long time and don’t require a flame (although I do love my homemade beeswax candles). Also, they don’t have the toxins that commercial fragrances and candles 99% of the time contain!

Essential oils can even clean the air in your home, killing micro-organisms that cause illness. You can find out more about how essential oils’ capabilities to do this in this article.

Essential Oil Blends for Fall

I thought I’d share some of my favorite essential oil blends specifically for the Fall with you! I think you’ll love these all the time, but especially now.

NOTE: You can drop these into your diffuser in these amounts listed below, OR you can do what I do, and use the same ratios to add to a larger 5 or 10 mL essential oil bottle so you always have your ready-made blends on hand. This is called a “stock blend.”

Also, making greater quantities of your favorite blends like this allows you to:

  • have your blend ready to go at all times

  • give bottles of your homemade blends as thoughtful gifts to friends

  • allows you to have a good quantity ready so you can make an essential oil spray or natural perfume.

These are called stock blends, and when you find a combination you like, it’s a great idea to make up 10 ml or so all at once. In case you’re wondering about amounts, 10 ml is about 200 drops. You can buy amber glass essential oil bottles with dropper tops here. They’re not expensive and are very handy to have on hand if you love your essential oils. Obviously, you can also wash and re-use your old essential oils bottles!

Once you have a nice blend (examples—the ones I’m sharing below), just double, triple, or multiply the drops by the same number. Just remember, if you’re using a 5 ml bottle, that’s about 80 to 100 drops. If you’re using a 10 ml bottle, that’s safely 160 to 200 drops per container.

Easy peasy!

You can keep your blends in dark amber glass bottles in different amounts, such as 10 mL, 1/2 ounce, and even greater amounts, like 2 ounces.

Here are three of my favorite Fall essential oil diffuser blends You can even add these to your potpourri. (Potpourri is basically dried botanicals for decoration and scent. You can dry your own plants or purchase them unscented.)

NOTE: the links for the essential oils below are from Amazon. I’ve done my best to try to find good companies on Amazon for you, but in full transparency, I do NOT recommend purchasing essential oils off of Amazon or any big box store or health food store. I’ve included my personally vetted list below of great companies I purchase from myself. I do not earn money by recommending the majority of these companies. I just want you to be purchasing the best, most pure, and most healthy essential oils you can.

Now… on to the blends!

Pumpkin Pie Blend

3 drops cinnamon essential oil

2 drops nutmeg essential oil

1 drop clove essential oil

1 drop ginger essential oil

1 drop cardamom essential oil (optional)

You can see these are classic pumpkin pie spice scents! If you love the smell of pumpkin pie, you’ll love this aroma blend.

And did you know?

**The smell of cinnamon is probably an aphrodisiac for the man in your life!

Cinnamon and clove essential oils contain chemicals that support a healthy immune system. And what smells better in the fall than your typical “pumpkin spice” scents?

Golden Autumn Sun

The sunshine in the fall is such a welcome blessing and seems especially glowing and beautiful. And so is this lovely, warming blend with a hint of citrus and evergreen….

2 drops cinnamon essential oil

2 drops orange essential oil

1 drop juniper essential oil

This woodsy-spicy-citrus blend is refreshing and uplifting, while scenting your home with deliciousness!

Once again, we see cinnamon, which supports health. Evergreens such as juniper contain high amounts of pinene, which also helps support healthy immune actions and the respiratory system. On top of all of this, the orange essential oil contains high amounts of limonene, which can go to work supporting a healthy white blood cell count. And…it smells amazing.

Cozy Day Blend

When it’s cold outside, there’s nothing better than a warm home that smells fabulous! This blend contains sandalwood, which is an amazing essential oil found in deep, musky colognes.

Used in this blend, it provides a base of sensuous warmth, while the evergreen scents clarify your mind. I think you’ll really like this one!

2 drops sandalwood essential oil (you could substitute with vetiver, which will save a bit of money)

2 drops cinnamon essential oil

1 or 2 drops fir or pine essential oil

This is another blend that everyone enjoys, including men.

NOTE: Sandalwood is very expensive. There aren’t really any perfect substitutes for it, either. However, if you want to substitute and have an amazing blend still, then I would suggest trying frankincense (Boswellia spp), cedarwood atlas (Cedrus atlanticus), or balsam Peru (Myroxylon pereirae), and of course, the vetiver mentioned above is wonderful, too.

High Quality Essential Oil Companies

Since I wrote this article years ago, sandalwood (2024) is now an endangered tree. Please be sure to source your essential oils sustainably and ONLY use high quality, unadulterated essential oils. (About 90% of the essential oils on the market these days are now adulterated, which ruins any therapeutic value and may be harmful to your health. It’s a serious and sad problem. The U.S. government doesn’t monitor essential oils, and until there are standards in place for safety, it’s every person for themselves. Be cautious, and check out my personally vetted quality companies in the link below.

As a professional level aromatherapist, I’ve personally vetted many companies for you. I am NOT an affiliate for most of these and do not earn money by my recommendations. These are the companies I personally purchase from. Here’s the LIST—-just scroll down about halfway on the page.

What is the Best Kind of Diffuser to Use?

There are several kinds of essential oil diffusers.

There are evaporative diffusers, which simply allow the essential oils to evaporate naturally into the air. You also have ultrasonic diffusers, which are the most common. And, finally, there are nebulizers.

Each type of diffuser has its strengths and pluses, but I’d have to say nebulizers are my favorite overall. You can find a complete rundown with all the details of different diffuser options in this article.

If you’d prefer a video, I discuss diffusers here on my YouTube channel, too. (Please subscribe)

But here are links to my favorites in each category on Amazon:

Where to Buy QUALITY Essential Oils and NOT Break the Bank

So, by now, with the essential oil craze going strong, we all know that essential oils are relatively expensive. Especially good quality essential oils, right?

But there are companies out there where you can purchase high quality, tested essential oils that aren’t going to cost you an arm and leg.

Here are my best criteria I use to choose companies that sell high quality, yet affordable essential oils.

**If I’m going to be breathing it in (or my family and pets) I do want to be sure I’ve got high quality EO’s, but I’ve learned that some companies, especially the MLM’s, are way overpriced. Here are the companies I can personally recommend and use myself. I am NOT an affiliate for most of these—- I’m recommending them based on my own standards for therapeutic use with clients, myself, my pets, friends, and my family members.

  • Aromatics International (Andrea Butje’s original company, and she personally vetted the farms. Now Karen Williams heads up the sourcing, and I’ve personally met her. This is a legitimate company with very high standards and care for the farmers and distillers.)

  • Triskele Organics (This is a small woman-owned lavender farm. Steff distills her own lavender essential oil on premises and sells two types of the lavender essential oil, “Grosso” and “Royal Velvet” along with culinary bulk lavender.)

  • Amrita Aromatherapy (high quality essential oil and herbal products)

  • BoreA Sens (This is a Canadian company with excellent and highly sustainable practices. I came across them at an international aromatherapy conference, checked them out, purchased some oils, and it’s a 100% “yes.”)

  • Florihana (A French family owned and reputably sourced essential oils company—they’re now in the United States, too)

  • Pompeii Street Organics (many professional and clinical aromatherapists vouch for this company)

  • Original Swiss Organics—-(The esteemed Kurt Schnaubelt’s company—-very reputable)

  • Perfect Potion (Salvatore Battaglia’s company in Australia—-very reputable)

  • Snow Lotus Aromatherapy (I’ve purchased a couple of times now since this company was recommended by my aromatherapy teacher where I earned my certificate for ingestion. Excellent experience and my nose “knows” it’s a YES)

  • Pranarom (A French company, highly well-known and reputable for quality—they are beginning to be found in the American market.)

  • Norfolk Essential Oils (This is a reputable British company, and if you’re working therapeutically, highly regarded.)

  • Rocky Mountain Oils (I haven’t researched their sourcing in a couple of years, but when last I did, all was well, and I love their blends)

  • Plant Therapy Essential Oils (This company has high quality essential oils, and they make donations to MANY great causes. Be sure these agree with your value system.)

  • Young Living Essential Oils (Because I enjoy and can vouch for many of their health products, their sustainability practices, and quality of the essential oils, I’ve decided to become an affiliate.)

  • Any essential oils you can find that you purchase directly from the distiller and farm

To reiterate….the quality of essential oil is vital for safe and effective use. And here are a few more thoughts on this…..

A thought about the MLM companies:

I get asked about the MLM (multi-level marketing companies), DoTerra and Young Living all the time. I feel these are very high quality essential oils and are absolutely fine to use. The danger with these companies is in the education of their distributors. These individuals are (usually) not qualified aromatherapists, even if they’ve had training with the parent company. They’re taught to sell in volume, which encourages unsafe practices.

Enjoy the essential oils, but be sure to ask an aromatherapist!

Make a homemade natural room spray or diffuser blend that will make your home smell A-Mazing AND clean the air and boost your immune system at the same time.

What Else Can You Do With Your Essential Oil Blends Besides Diffuse Them?

You can use essential oils in all kinds of ways! Here are some easy options so you can really put your essential oils to work:

1) Use them in your cleaning products!

You can make an easy all-purpose cleaning spray like this one. Try using one of the blends above for a Fall scented cleaner!

2) Make a room spray

You can see how to make a room spray using essential oils on my YouTube channel right here.

Essentially, you just combine a bit of your essential oil blend (2% to 5% dilution) with some distilled water (73%, approximately) and 25% 190 proof vodka or denatured alcohol. Shake, spray, and enjoy!

These make great additions to your bathroom, too!

3) Natural Perfume: Solid, Spray, or Roll-On

You’ll love these options for extending the usefulness of your essential oil blends! You can find out how to make all of these kinds of convenient natural perfumes and body scents in this link.

Safety Factors

Cinnamon, clove, ginger, and cardamom are “hot” oils, and should never be used “neat” or directly on the skin. In addition, orange essential oil may cause phototoxicity if used on skin in the sun.

Be sure you do your research before using herbs or essential oils for health reasons. See disclaimer below.
