DIY Anti-Aging Skin Serum Recipe for the Mature Face or Dry Skin

INSIDE: An incredible herbal and aromatic recipe for an anti-aging skincare serum for dry and mature skin. Plus…you’ll understand why the carrier oils and essential oils work!

I’ve been using this incredible anti-aging oil serum for several weeks, and what a wonderful difference it’s making. Plumper skin, more hydration, and the scent is pretty, too. I’m sharing the recipe with you because it’s a real winner.

The carrier oils and also the essential oils in this recipe are indicated for supporting, soothing, and rejuvenating mature skin and also skin that is scarred. You may want to read this article when you have a moment: Best Essential Oils for Wrinkles and Scars.

As we age, our skin becomes thinner, and there are just inescapable changes our bodies go through. Women, especially, have thinner skin in general than men, and when the peri- and menopause years hit, the evidence is clearly seen in our skin, especially with crepey skin, wrinkles, hanging skin, and more.

Our facial skin tends to thin faster and show more damage than the rest of the body. I also include the neck, jawline, and the decollete (chest area). I suggest including these additional areas into your special skincare regimen in addition to the face.

I want to mention the importance of using natural products on your face, too. As the natural indy skincare market explodes recently, we can trace the reason directly back to the growing awareness that the chemicals in most commercial products are toxic.

Putting certain toxic chemicals on our skin (carcinogens, endocrine disruptors, etc.) have a cumulative impact on not only our appearance, but more importantly, our health. When our detoxification organs (liver, kidneys, lungs, skin) are working over time to filter out molecules that shouldn’t be inside of us, and for a very long time, eventually we can become ill. Our bodies reach a threshold for how much filtering can be done.

Since whatever we put on our skin tends to become disseminated to varying extents into our bloodstream, it’s a very good idea to only use natural ingredients in our skincare products, at least as much as is possible.

However, not everyone can or wants to formulate or create their own products. I’m in this category, to be truthful. Although I do make many of my own skincare needs, I choose to purchase a few items from my favorite natural skincare product company, Lemongrass Spa.

They have an excellent anti-aging serum that’s very reasonably priced you can take a look at, in case you aren’t interested in purchasing all the oils needed to make your own lovely skin serum.

Lemongrass Spa Anti-Aging Serum **This also can come with the Cleansing Oil which I just adore.

Heidi’s Anti-Aging Skin Serum Recipe

Ingredients:

1 tbsp golden jojoba oil

1/2 tbsp rose hip seed oil

1/2 tsp tamanu oil

1/2 tsp sea buckthorn oil

2-3 drops Vitamin E oil

2 drops frankincense (Frankincense spp.) essential oil

2 drops patchouli (Pogostemon cablin) essential oil

1 drop lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) essential oil

**This is an approximate 1% dilution for your essential oils, which is fine for the face. You can leave the essential oils out altogether if you want. And here are some other great choices in case you want to substitute any of these, as I realize some people don’t prefer lavender or patchouli as scents.

Great essential oil substitutes for facial skincare homemade products:

Helichrysum (Helichrysum italicum)

Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens and var. rosea)

Rose (Rosa damascena)

I realize these are all fairly pricy essential oils, but they do work wonderfully on mature skin. As a certified professional level aromatherapist, these are some of my favorites for including in rejuvenating skincare products.

The carrier oils in the recipe above are all exceptional for helping the skin retain moisture and improve surface quality as well. These are also some of my favorites for using in my Belly Balm for stretch marks recipe.

Directions:

Simply combine the oils and the essential oils in a 2 ounce bottle and shake well. I like to use either a dropper bottle or a pump bottle as these both make it easy to get the oil out without making a mess.

To use, just a small amount will do. I use about three drops or one pump and then “blot” onto my skin and neck. You may need more if you’re including your chest area (recommended).

Enjoy!

This serum soaks in beautifully and is filled with ingredients to support aging skin or dry skin.

Where to Purchase Your Essential Oils

I get asked this ALL the time, and to be frank, I’m very careful about sourcing essential oils. These days it’s very easy for anyone to purchase essential oils in bulk from sub-par companies and re-label them. So…buyer beware!

The links in the recipe above are for Amazon, and to be up front and transparent, I NEVER purchase essential oils on Amazon. They’re there for your convenience, but I’ve got a list of other great options just below.

But first…..

What’s the problem with sub-par essential oils?

My friend, LOTS of potential things, including:

*adulteration (this is a big deal and it’s very problematic)

*sustainability issues

*no lab testing (GC/MS reports that prove the oils are going to work therapeutically)

*poor quality in general

*potential pesticides and soil issues in the growing of the plants

and others.

Here’s Where NOT to Buy Your Essential Oils:

1) From big box, chain, and grocery stores or from Amazon

2) From businesses who don’t have a minimum Level 2 (Professional level) certified aromatherapist registered with NAHA or AIA at the helm of the company. I came across a company that was selling “Vanilla Essential Oil.” Guess what? There’s NO such thing! I reached out and let the business owner know. She did take down this product, but the rest are still there….dangerously there for the consumer.

3) From companies who aren’t transparent about their sourcing (and unfortunately that’s most of them)

4) From small businesses who buy inferior, adulterated “essential oils” in bulk from large suppliers then rebrand under their own name. Often these bulk companies even offer to buy the essential oils BACK from these small businesses if they don’t sell…. It’s heinous! These businesses are popping up all over the place these days, too. If you see a tea shop selling essential oils….run. If you see a shop that sells freeze-dried foods and essential oils….run. Stick with businesses that specialize in sourcing high quality essential oils only.

5) From companies who constantly push the price-line. There’s a reason essential oils are expensive, especially the ones that require a LOT of plant matter.

Here are some companies where I purchase my own oils, and the ones with links are affiliate links, in full disclosure.

1) Rocky Mountain Oils

2) Amrita Aromatherapy:

3) Plant Therapy

4) Aromatics International:

5) Florihana

6) Pompeii Street Organics

7) New Directions

8) Perfect Potion

9) Pranarom

Also…I enjoy Starwest Botanicals for some topical products, including homemade soaps.

Final Thoughts on Anti-Aging Serum

I love oiling my face! And this serum is actually fairly lightweight and soaks in quickly, making it a wonderful addition to your nightly routine. If you want to use it in the morning as well, just wait about 20 minutes after applying to put your make up on.

I hope you love this serum, and if you just can’t or don’t want to buy all the ingredients (and I totally get this), then you owe it to yourself to check out Lemongrass Spa!
