Make the BEST Quick, Easy and Effective Foaming Hand Soap
Inside: This article is a great recipe for making foaming hand soap with simple and inexpensive ingredients. It’s safe, effective, and MUCH better for your skin than commercial options….
I have been making my own soaps and cleaners for our family for a long time now. Usually, I use the left over hot process soap to make soap balls that we use for washing our hands. However, like most solid soaps that are used often, sometimes the "goo" builds up. This last weekend, I got a call from my Mom letting me know that she was bringing over 6 people for dinner on the spur of the moment! EGADS!!!
Immediately your mind goes to, "What will they see when they use the sink? Or walk through the door? Or use the bathroom?" Then starts the RUSH around the house, for a super quick clean. This is what triggered my adaptation of several recipes into this one AMAZING hand cleaner.
I've been toying with doing something like this for quite some time, but just never got around to it...because my hard soaps are, well, GREAT! But not for company coming. Let's face it---Nobody wants to use soap that has been used before. It's become a cultural cleanliness thing.
So....on to this great hand soap recipe you’ll adore!
Ingredients for Handmade Foaming Hand Soap
1. Liquid Castile Soap (like Dr. Bronner's)
2. Fractionated Coconut Oil OR Jojoba Oil
4. Filtered water (although I just use our well water---it works great.)
5. Essential Oils (Lemon, Wild Orange, Rosemary, Eucalyptus, Cinnamon, Clove---or a combination of whichever ones you like) About 30 ish drops per 8 ounce bottle.
6. A foaming hand soap container (about 12 ounces). You can use one you already have from the store OR you can buy fresh clean new sterile ones HERE.
How to Make Your Own Foaming Hand Soap
1. Measure out a cup (8 ounces) of Castile Soap. Pour it into the bottle
2. Measure out about 1 tablespoon of the liquid (fractionated) coconut oil OR the Jojoba oil and add it to the bottle. The oils help retain the oil barrier that is naturally on your skin, while still cleansing.
3. Measure out about 1 tablespoon of the Vegetable Glycerin and add it as well. A bit less is also just fine.
4. Add about 20 to 30 ish drops of essential oils of your choice---the antiseptic ones are best for cleaning your hands (see above)
5. Fill remainder with filtered (or bottled or whatever you are comfortable with) water
That's it! You can shake it to mix it up if you want. If you notice the essential oils separating, then definitely shake it.
I have found that using the Fractionated Coconut Oil or Jojoba oil and the Vegetable Glycerin reduces the need to shake it up every time. Also, they both provide moisturizing qualities. Most soaps strip the natural oils from your skin, and you don't want this! This soap cleans and keeps your hands nice at the same time! :-) Win-Win!!!
On a side-note---but not really a side note at all: Did you know that the FDA recently banned (FINALLY) Triclosan from soap and body care products? It is highly toxic, that's why, and there has been enough pressure on them to have it removed. Did you know that the FDA is giving companies a YEAR to get it removed and reformulate???? Isn't that just crazy?
This means all of us will continue to use these toxic chemicals on their hands/bodies/hair, etc.---not knowing they are putting potential carcinogens and toxic chemicals onto their skin--the largest most absorbent organ of the human body for the next year. This is not to mention all the "other" petrochemical-based or other toxic things in our body care products. NO thank you.
Final Thoughts on Homemade Hand Soap
Do yourself (and your family) a favor----DIY!
There are SO many reasons to learn to make your own products, from cleaning to skincare to herbal medicines (especially herbal medicines), and so much more. Do you want to save money? Or have healthier things in your home? Reduce environmental toxins? Put GOOD things on your babies? Be less reliant on commercial crud (i.e. toxic products from stores)?
These are only a few of the reasons you should consider learning to make your own things.
Once you begin making your own things, you may just become addicted, like I did!
